Job Title: Level 2 Network Engineer

Overview:
African Realty Trust is seeking a Level 2 Network Engineer to join our IT team at our Tzaneen location. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills in network troubleshooting, design, implementation, and security, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. This role requires a proactive approach to network monitoring and management, adherence to best practices, and the ability to provide mentorship to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network issues efficiently, including connectivity problems, configuration errors, and performance issues.
- Network Design and Implementation: Assist in designing and implementing network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and other networking devices.
- Advanced Configuration: Configure and administer network devices, including VLANs, routing protocols, ACLs, VPNs, and QoS settings.
- Network Security: Implement and manage network security measures, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and access control policies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Network Monitoring and Management: Proactively monitor network performance, identify issues, and implement solutions using network monitoring tools.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures. Provide regular reports on network performance and security incidents.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with other IT teams to support business objectives and resolve cross-functional issues. Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding network-related matters.
- Knowledge Sharing and Mentoring: Share knowledge and provide guidance to junior team members or other IT staff. Assist in training and development initiatives.
- Adherence to Best Practices: Follow industry best practices and standards for network design, configuration, and security. Stay updated on emerging technologies and security threats in the networking field.
- On-call Support: Be available for on-call support and participate in incident response activities outside of regular business hours, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in network engineering or a related role.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with network hardware and software, including Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto.
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, etc.) preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
